Teeny Weeny Crochet!

You have all been wonderful again this week, leaving some very cheerful comments on last weeks post Crochet Baby Sandals.  Please keep them coming, it's what makes this blogging business so much fun   :) If any of you have made the sandals I'd love to see a photo of them.

We have just been for a walk along Teignmouth Sea Front and despite the weather forecast saying it was 5 degrees c it felt more like -5!

Personally I would have rather stayed home doing my crochet but my OH dragged me out!!  It was worth it though as the sea was quite rough which made it a bit more fun!

Only WIP to show this week!
Those of you who follow me on fb may have noticed I shared a picture of a teeny weeny teddy bear made by Sharon O'Jala  I decided I would have a go too.

This is as far as I got!  Not a particularly flattering photo, but you get the picture :)

Sharon's teeny teddy couldn't have been above the size of a penny from head to toe, but she crocheted hers on a very tiny hook and with sewing thread.

I have used a 2mm hook and size 5 Perle thread, so mine will come out a little bigger, but tiny by my standards! Chester springs to mind :)  You may remember Maisy, she was one of Sharon's patterns too.  If you would like to have a go at a tiny creature you can find Sharon's FREE patterns over at Amigurumi to Go!  Have fun!  They are rather cute :)

My other WIP is this .....

I bought some gorgeous cotton yarn in 14 rainbow colours from Planet Penny the other day.  It was perfect for the project one of my daughter's requested.  I am using a pattern posted by Emma of 'I love Buttons'  I'll put you out of your misery and tell you what I am making next week, but in the meantime if you pop over to Emma's blog you may just be able to work out what it will be!

What's the tiniest item you have ever made?

There are a lot of links in this post I'm afraid, although they are all worth a peak.  You'll have to let me know what you think.  Just one more link and I think you regular readers can guess what it will be!!  But, for those of you who haven't experienced the fantastic Wendy over at Handmade Harbour I suggest you grab yourself a cup of tea and pay all the lovely crafters taking part in Handmade Monday over there a visit.  You wont be disappointed :)

  1. oooo I am going to have to have a go at that tiny teddy. Love, love, love it. You really did mean small. Seems as if you like the extremes. Loving the bright yarns. Hope you have a great week. :)

  2. I've holidayed many a year in Dawlish and I know that no matter what the temperature, those paths along the railtrack can be very blustery indeed! Off down that way in April - I hope it's a little warmer than today! x

  3. Brrr...it looked a bit chilly at the seaside!
Looking forward to seeing your tiny completed teddy. I can't remember what the smallest thing I've ever made is...I quite like working in miniature. I did recently make a pair of felted earrings with a clown and a monkey, which were about 1.5cm in height, and the monkey was holding a very tiny peeled banana about 5mm in size.

    1. It was a bit chilly! Always is on Teignmouth Sea Front. Those earrings sound pretty tiny to me. Not easy to do I would imagine!

  4. Your attempt at the tiny teddy has given me inspiration for what I would like to make ... a tiny spider! I am going to have a go tonight I think!! The smallest thing I've ever crocheted is a flower for a hat but smallest ever would have to be a fimo spider!!

  7. Aw, stop it with the compliments, you'll have me getting big-headed! I love the idea of a walk along the sea front, whatever the weather. I know I would walk much more if I lived near the coast. What a change for you, making tiny things!!

  11. Your little bear is looking great ( the yellow one is amazingly small!)

The smallest thing I ever made was a pair of stud earrings in which I had done miniature embroideries of pansies! Of course I don't have a photo but my grandmother still wears them :)

  12. We live by the sea so I too love watching the waves crashing. It is quite scary though when they completely cover the pier light house !!!

I can't wait to see your finished teddy. You'll have to post a photo of him (or her....) with Chester.

I can't remember the smallest thing I made. I think it might have been a needlepoint rug for my nieces dolls house. However I have knitted with sewing thread before.

    1. I love the sea especially the really rough waves. I don't like to be away from it for too long, if I can help it! Knitting with sewing thread sounds pretty teeny weeny to me :)

  13. How small is that teddy? Crumbs! Reminds me of a little doll that my Grandma and Grandpa used to havee - I found her again when I cleared out Dad's loft and she currently sits on my dresser. She is either knitted or crocheted (you can tell I can't do either)! I'll have to see if I can find a photo of her.

We've had a couple of walks like that recently - wishing you could wrap yourself up in a duvet while out! Love the look of the rainbow WIP, but got no idea what it will become! Have a good week, Simmi x

    1. My teddy wont be that small as I have used thicker thread and a larger hook but I had to start somewhere! Glad the rainbow wip has kept you guessing. Watch this space ;)

  16. I love making tiny things - have made mini bunnies, tiny flowers and little bears but using yarn. I've travelled along the railway line by Teignmouth and Dawlish many times in winter with the sea hitting the train windows and we used to go to Teignmouth for our Sunday School outing each summer, thanks for the trip down memory lane x
